What to do following an accident or damage to an aircraft?

1)        Seek emergency help and/or medical attention for any injuries.  Call 911 or other emergency services.  

2)        Secure the aircraft, wreckage, and the scene.  Protect aircraft to avoid further damage, to the extent possible.

3)        Cooperate with on scene authorities and emergency personnel.

4)        Document incident details

a.        Date and time

b.        Note specific details of the event

c.        Photograph the scene and any damage or loss

d.        Record names and contact information of any person involved, passengers, crew members, injured parties, witnesses, and responding on-scene personnel.

5)        Do not make any comments to the media or any members of the public other than official first responders or investigators.  Do not comment on insurance coverage amounts or applicability.
