PIPER INSURANCE
These are wonderful aircraft and one of the most cost-effective and efficient aircraft manufactured. This aircraft has a large reputable dealer and non-dealer network of maintenance providers, so they are always easy to get repaired. Many turbine PA-46 pilots step up from high-performance piston singles and twins to this aircraft, while piston PA-46 owners value the aircraft for its efficiency and pressurization.
5X5 Insurance supports the Piper M-Class Owners and Pilots Association (PMOPA) and incentivizes pilots to join by providing an immediate 5% premium reduction for being a paid member.
WHAT 5X5 DOES FOR PISTON AND TURBINE PA-46 BUYERS AND OWNERS
Works with turbine and piston pilots to obtain the most comprehensive information about their experience and flying, ensuring that seasoned owners receive transparency and the best Piper options for their Piper insurance.
Gives PMOPA members special premium discounts that reward them for their commitment to training throughout the year. If the pilot earns Master Aviator status, they can receive the maximum premium reduction for their Piper insurance. 5X5 recognizes the improved safety from pilots who train regularly and participate with the owners and pilots association.
Get a quote in as little as 15 minutes. No waiting and wondering for weeks or longer to see if you are approved and what coverage you may be offered. You can talk directly to an underwriter who can answer your questions without needless back and forth, ensuring transparency and that you’re represented fairly.
Receive the best price up front based on your training and experience. More training during the year provides you with more savings on your premium. No other insurer communicates directly to you about how you can reduce your premium.
Avoid the “broker of record” nonsense, allowing the free market to operate as it should. 5X5 won’t lock you out of receiving other quotes.
Can help pilots transition into the PA-46 from non-pressurized piston-powered aircraft and prepares them for the opportunities available from a truly cross-country machine.
Supports your aviation journey, whether it involves flying multiple PA-46s during your flying career or upgrading to larger turboprops and even jets. We’re the only insurer that grows with you along this journey as your experience and age increase and evolve, including if your mission changes and you decide to sell a larger aircraft and return to the efficiency of the PA-46.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE FOR INSURABILITY
Stepping into a PA-46 requires a minimum of a private pilot certificate, instrument rating and at least 500 hours experience.
For those transitioning into a PA-46, specialized initial training is required by one of PMOPA’s approved Master Standardized Instructor Pilot (MSIP) instructors. In many cases, a new-to-turbine PA-46 pilot will require additional in-aircraft mentor time before they are prepared to act as the sole Pilot In Command.
Insurance approved initial and recurrent instructors are the MSIPs listed on the PMOPA website.
CUSTOMER-SELECTED TBM INSURANCE COVERAGE OPTIONS
Hull coverage options include Ground & Flight, Not In Flight, Ground Not In Motion and Liability Only.
Multiple liability options from $1 million to $5 million are available, depending on experience and qualifications. Some have passenger sublimits, and others offer no sublimit (aka smooth) coverage.
COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS
-
Every aircraft is distinctive and completing in-aircraft or simulator training with an experienced PA-46 specialist ensures you operate the aircraft safely, protecting you and your passengers. 5X5 recognizes that OPAs know more about operating the aircraft than the insurance company and that PMOPA-approved instructors deliver the best, most comprehensive and standardized training.
-
Getting through the initial training requires a lot of work and you will be overwhelmed by the amount you must learn. Once that training is completed, there is nothing better than using your new knowledge flying your aircraft in the ATC system, weather, unfamiliar airports and even dealing with FBOs and going international. The extra time in the seat allows you to get comfortable with all aspects of operating your PA-46.
-
There are multiple ways to reduce your premium. First, become a member of PMOPA, as the organization is a fantastic resource for all Piper PA-46 pilots to connect with other owners, learn, and become a better pilot. Research shows that pilots engaged with their OPA have fewer accidents. Second, the way to earn the highest premium discount is to sign up and earn Master Aviator distinction. This commitment shows 5X5 that you maintain a high level of proficiency by completing educational and training events each year. And you earn the highest premium discount by becoming a Master Aviator.
-
Certainly. While many pilots find the PA-46 serves all of their needs, family and business changes sometimes necessitate an upgrade. You will be required to add a multiengine rating with instrument privileges to your existing FAA certificate. 5X5 will ask you to become an active member of the owners and pilots association of your chosen aircraft. We find that pilots engaged with their aircraft’s OPA are safer and better equipped for a high-performance aircraft like these amazing planes.
